New Delhi: Delhi’s Foundation Day was marked with grandeur and patriotic fervour as the city hosted “Meri Dilli Mera Desh – Unity in Diversity” at the historic Red Fort on Friday. The event, organised by the Government of Delhi, celebrated the capital’s vibrant culture, rich heritage, and spirit of unity.

The celebration was inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Shri V. K. Saxena, Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, Education Minister Shri Ashish Sood, and Tourism Minister Shri Kapil Mishra, among other dignitaries.

Education Minister Ashish Sood said the event symbolised Delhi’s enduring soul of “Unity in Diversity,” portraying the city not merely as India’s capital but as an idea that represents coexistence, innovation, and resilience. “Delhi embraces every struggle and turns it into strength — that is our city’s true identity,” he remarked.

Highlighting Delhi’s historical legacy, Sood recalled how the Red Fort witnessed both the pain of Partition and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s determination to unite the nation.

The event featured a Heritage Walk, a Food Festival showcasing local cuisines prepared by students and artisans, and an impressive projection mapping show depicting Delhi’s history on the Red Fort’s walls. The evening concluded with a live concert by popular singer B Praak, whose patriotic melodies captivated the audience.

Sood noted that such a grand celebration had not been organized in the past 25 years. “This initiative reflects our government’s commitment to reviving Delhi’s cultural pride and unity,” he said.

The Delhi Government also felicitated citizens who have made remarkable contributions to the city’s development and social service.
