New Delhi: Turning his birthday into a message of environmental responsibility, Delhi Cabinet Minister and Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh celebrated the occasion by performing the Yamuna Aarti at Vasudev Ghat and seeking the blessings of Maa Yamuna. He reiterated his commitment to working towards cleaning and rejuvenating the Yamuna stretch from Wazirabad to Kalindi Kunj within the next three years.
The occasion also reinforced his appeal to Delhiites to celebrate their birthdays and other special moments with Maa Yamuna, encouraging people to reconnect with the river and actively participate in its restoration.
Speaking on the occasion, Parvesh Sahib Singh said that having appealed to citizens to celebrate their special occasions with Maa Yamuna, he had chosen to follow the same message on his own birthday. He urged every Delhiite to reconnect with the river, share their happy moments with it and contribute to the collective effort to restore its glory.
He said special facilities, including huts, are being developed along the riverfront to provide families with welcoming spaces to spend quality time by the Yamuna and celebrate birthdays and other important occasions.
Emphasising that rejuvenation involves more than simply cleaning the river, the Minister said riverfront development is equally important to transform the surrounding areas into clean, green and attractive public spaces.
“Our vision is to make the Yamuna a source of pride for Delhi once again. Cleaning the river, improving its surroundings and developing the riverfront must go hand in hand. When people become emotionally connected with the Yamuna, they will also feel a greater responsibility towards keeping it clean,” he said.
Parvesh Sahib Singh said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the initiatives of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, focused efforts are being undertaken to address the challenges facing the Yamuna and accelerate its rejuvenation.
Reiterating the three-year target, he said efforts would continue to make the entire stretch from Wazirabad to Kalindi Kunj clean and rejuvenated.
He expressed hope that Maa Yamuna would regain her pristine form and that Delhiites would actively join the collective mission to restore the river for the benefit of future generations.
