New Delhi: The Delhi Legislative Assembly has appointed chairpersons for its three principal financial committees for 2026–27, with Speaker Vijender Gupta underscoring their central role in ensuring transparency and fiscal discipline.
Announcing the appointments, Gupta named Ajay Mahawar as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Raj Kumar Bhatia to head the Committee on Government Undertakings, and Gajender Singh Yadav as Chairman of the Committee on Estimates.
The Speaker said financial committees form the “backbone of legislative accountability”, acting as the primary mechanism through which the legislature scrutinises public expenditure and administrative functioning. Their effective functioning, he noted, is essential to maintain transparency and uphold fiscal discipline while ensuring executive actions are subject to informed legislative oversight.
Members of the respective committees had been notified earlier this month. The Public Accounts Committee under Mahawar includes Harish Khurana, Kuldeep Kumar, Sanjay Goyal, Sanjeev Jha, Satish Upadhyay, Shikha Roy, Surya Prakash Khatri and Virender Singh Kadian.
The Committee on Government Undertakings led by Bhatia comprises Aahir Deepak Chaudhary, Anil Jha, Zubair Ahmad, Jarnail Singh, Kuldeep Solanki, Raj Karan Khatri, Ravinder Singh Negi and Tilak Ram Gupta.
The Estimates Committee under Yadav includes Karnail Singh, Neelam Pahalwan, Poonam Sharma, Pravesh Ratn, Sahi Ram, Sandeep Sehrawat, Umang Bajaj and Veer Singh Dhingan.
Gupta expressed confidence that the newly appointed chairpersons would uphold rigorous standards of scrutiny and strengthen institutional accountability through sustained examination of financial and administrative matters.
The appointments are significant as these panels serve as the Assembly’s principal instruments for supervising public spending and reviewing the functioning of government departments and undertakings.
