The Baloch Liberation Army claimed a suicide commando attack on a Pakistan coast guards camp in Jiwani. The claim, including more than 30 deaths, remained unconfirmed by Pakistani authorities.

The banned separatist group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for a suicide commando attack on a Pakistan coast guards camp in the coastal town of Jiwani in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan, alleging that more than 30 security personnel were killed and several others injured, The Balochistan Post reported.

According to a statement attributed to BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, the attack was carried out by the group’s Majeed Brigade at a coast guards facility in the Panwan area of Jiwani, located in the strategically important Gwadar district. The group described the operation as a “fidayee” (suicide) assault and claimed its fighters breached the camp before launching the attack.

The BLA said the assault resulted in the deaths of more than 30 Pakistani personnel and injuries to dozens of others. However, Pakistani authorities had not immediately confirmed the casualty figures, and the claims could not be independently verified.

In its statement, the group said the operation was conducted by its elite Majeed Brigade unit and described it as part of its ongoing campaign against Pakistani security forces in Balochistan. The BLA has frequently targeted military, paramilitary and government installations in the province, where a long-running separatist insurgency has persisted for years.

Why Pakistan, not India, is to blame for its own water crisis

The latest claim comes amid heightened militant activity in Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but least populated province. Separatist groups operating in the region have repeatedly carried out attacks on security forces, infrastructure projects and state institutions, demanding greater autonomy and control over the province’s natural resources.

The BLA, which is designated as a terrorist organisation by Pakistan and several other countries, has been behind some of the deadliest attacks in the province in recent years, including assaults on security installations and high-profile suicide bombings.

There was no immediate official statement from Pakistani officials confirming the details of the attack or the casualty figures claimed by the insurgent group.
