New Delhi: The ruling BJP administration has dismissed allegations of irregularities in the procurement of bicycles under the student welfare scheme, asserting that the entire process strictly followed Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) guidelines.
The BJP said the procurement was conducted through a transparent open-tendering process on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), aimed at ensuring fairness and preventing financial irregularities.
Delhi BJP Leader Virendra Babbar said the procurement process was carried out with “genuine transparency”. He also pointed out that the retail price of identical bicycles is at par with prevailing market prices.
Babbar further said that the alleged price difference cited through what he described as fabricated documents does not carry critical value when assessed against actual market prices.
He maintained that the use of open tendering and established government procurement mechanisms to safeguard public funds under the student welfare scheme should be viewed positively rather than portrayed as a scam.
