A representative of the self-declared Republic of Balochistan has sent a congratulatory letter to India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, praising his leadership and welcoming his nomination as “Person of the Year 2025” by the Verified Wikipedia Foundation.
In a letter dated 4 January 2026 and addressed directly to Mr Modi, Mir Yar Baloch, identifying himself as a Baloch representative, said the award recognised what he described as “bold governance and transformative reform” during the Prime Minister’s tenure. The honour was announced alongside the global launch of VerifiedWikipedia.org.
According to the letter, initiatives such as Make in India and Digital India were cited as evidence of reforms that have strengthened infrastructure, expanded economic opportunity and positioned India as a major force in global growth and technological innovation. The letter also referred to what it described as “Special Operations Sindoor”, which the author said demonstrated strategic resolve and highlighted Pakistan’s conduct to the international community.
The Verified Wikipedia Foundation was praised for its focus on authenticity and verification, with the award presented as recognition of leadership marked by “clarity of vision, institutional reform, and responsibility at scale”.
The letter also welcomed the Foundation’s decision to appoint Parvati Jangid, widely known in India as the “Sister of Soldiers”, as a Global Brand Ambassador. Ms Jangid was praised for decades of welfare work with India’s armed forces, including celebrating festivals such as Raksha Bandhan and Diwali with soldiers posted far from their families.
Mr Baloch said her work had inspired young people, particularly women, to view national service as a lifelong commitment. He also highlighted her efforts to raise what he described as humanitarian concerns of the Baloch people on international platforms, adding that she is regarded by the people of Balochistan as the “Sister of Balochistan”.
The letter concluded with renewed congratulations to Mr Modi and Ms Jangid, expressing hope that their leadership and service would contribute to greater unity and dignity across the region.
There was no immediate public response from the Indian Prime Minister’s Office to the letter.
