ISLAMABAD — In a bold statement released Tuesday, Baloch political figure Mir Yar Baloch urged the international community to recognize the “Republic of Balochistan” as an independent state, claiming such a move would halt Pakistan’s alleged use of the region’s vast natural wealth to finance terrorism and military expansion.
“The recognition of independent Balochistan will cease the flow of its wealth which Pakistan for decades utilizes to fund terror machinery,” Baloch said in a statement shared on social media on November 4.
He accused Islamabad of systematically exploiting Balochistan’s natural resources — including natural gas, oil, gold, copper, and uranium — while diverting revenues away from local development. Citing data from energy and mining sites such as Sui, Dera Bugti, and Reko Diq, Baloch alleged that Pakistan extracts over Rs. 1,300 billion monthly from the province’s natural gas wells alone.
According to Baloch, these revenues have been funneled into extremist groups and paramilitary forces rather than schools, hospitals, and infrastructure in the impoverished province. He also condemned what he called Pakistan’s “state-sponsored terrorism, nuclear blackmail, and reckless missile testing,” arguing that global recognition of Baloch independence would undercut the country’s ability to fund militant networks in South and Central Asia.
“The eradication of Pakistan’s terror machinery is not a matter of complexity; it is a matter of truth and courage,” he said, appealing to “allies” to end Pakistan’s alleged exploitation of Balochistan’s resources and its use as a base for proxy wars.
