Pankaj Nath, Assam, 23 August: Three first information reports (FIRs) were filed at the Sivasagar Sadar police station on Sunday against BJP MLA Mayur Borgohain, accusing him of issuing a threat of physical violence against Akhil Gogoi, president of the regional Political Party ‘Raijor Dal’ and MLA from Sivasagar. Local leaders and social activists lodged the complaints, police confirmed. According to police sources, two separate complaints were filed by Raijor Dal affiliates Sandeep Gogoi and Bishwa Das, while the third was filed by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Bidyut Saikia. The complainants allege that during a recent event in Sivasagar, Borgohain made what they describe as “violent and provocative” remarks against Akhil Gogoi and purportedly questioned the principle of non-violence, amounting to a threat of physical attack.The FIRs state that Borgohain’s alleged remarks created a threat to the safety and peace of Gogoi and his supporters, and that the statements were not only a personal affront but also publicly inciting, making legal action necessary, the complainants said. A senior police officer told reporters that investigations into all three complaints are underway. Officers have sought witness statements, relevant documents and mobile footage from the event. Authorities said that if any criminal elements are established during the probe, appropriate legal action will be taken. Given the political stature of those involved and active local engagement, general public described the matter as sensitive. No arrests were reported as of Sunday; the investigation remains in progress.
