New Delhi: Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra on Tuesday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on the Jantar Mantar protest controversy, accusing him of misleading the country’s youth by portraying alleged violations of the law as a fight for the Tricolour.
Malhotra alleged that CJP leaders Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka were misleading young people with the support of foreign funds. He said Das and Ranka, along with Abhijit Dipke, had appeared before a magistrate’s court four days earlier and furnished bonds undertaking not to engage in illegal activities for one year.
According to Malhotra, Das and Ranka subsequently reached Jantar Mantar with another associate, Ajinke Shinde, after Delhi Police removed the site from its list of designated protest locations.
The police produced all three before a magistrate’s court, where Das and Ranka were sent to jail for allegedly violating the conditions of their earlier bonds, while Shinde was released after furnishing a bond, Malhotra said.
The Delhi BJP chief described Rahul Gandhi’s response to the matter as politically motivated and criticised what he termed an attempt to present the alleged law-breaking as a struggle for the national flag.
“Like the CJP leaders, Rahul Gandhi too should be ashamed of misleading the country and the youth,” Malhotra said, adding that the country would not forgive such conduct.
He also criticised the Congress, CJP and Aam Aadmi Party leaders, alleging that their actions reflected undemocratic and anarchic conduct and brought disrepute to those who believed in justice.
The remarks came amid a political dispute over the Jantar Mantar protest and the actions taken against the three individuals.
