New Delhi: Delhi BJP President Shri Harsh Malhotra on Saturday accused opposition parties of vitiating the country’s political atmosphere through what he described as “hollow protests” against the Chief Election Commissioner, while putting undue pressure on the police and administration and disrupting the business season that began on October 1.

Malhotra said Delhi’s business organisations were concerned that the opposition protests could derail the upcoming three-month business season, which is considered crucial for traders and businesses across Delhi and other parts of the country, including Mumbai.

He said several business organisations had contacted the BJP and expressed concern over the protests, alleging that the demonstrations were being conducted out of fear of political defeat.

The Delhi BJP president said the Congress, Communist parties and the Aam Aadmi Party, which he claimed had been rejected by voters, had joined hands in protesting against the Chief Election Commissioner. He alleged that the protests were not only affecting the political environment but could also have an adverse impact on economic activity during the festive season.

Malhotra said that with Assembly elections scheduled in early 2027, the Aam Aadmi Party was already facing the prospect of losing power in Punjab, while the Congress was likely to face a major electoral setback in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Punjab.

He further alleged that the Communist parties, Samajwadi Party, RJD and Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee had also joined the opposition campaign and were attempting to derail economic activity during the festive period.

According to Malhotra, opposition protests had adversely affected business activity in Delhi throughout July. He expressed concern that renewed demonstrations could similarly disrupt the three-month business season beginning in October.

The Delhi BJP president said the concerns raised by business organisations reflected apprehension over the potential impact of political protests on trade and commercial activity during the festive season.
