Pankaj Nath, Assam, 14 September: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday inaugurated several major interlinked development projects worth a total of Rs 122.20 crore in Jorhat and Sivasagar districts on the first day of his three-day visit to Upper Assam. The projects aim to ease public life, strengthen administrative infrastructure, and improve educational and civic facilities.Highlighting the Jorhat developments, the Chief Minister formally opened a new integrated Deputy Commissioner’s office at Chinamora built at a cost of Rs 49.22 crore. The modern administrative complex will house the Deputy Commissioner’s office, sub-registrar, treasury, food and civil supplies department and the election office. The building also features a 150-seat auditorium, a 60-seat meeting chamber, National Informatics Centre (NIC) facilities, space provision for a 50-kilowatt solar installation, and parking for 25 four-wheelers and 150 two-wheelers.Sarma also inaugurated a new rail overbridge at the Chinamora railway crossing. Constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 65 crore, the overbridge stretches 545 metres and includes a 1.5-metre-wide footpath. The Chinamora crossing, located on the Jorhat–Moriani– Mokokchung route, had long been a congestion point; officials said the bridge will substantially reduce traffic jams and eliminate delays caused by the level crossing, ensuring smoother movement in the area.In addition to the physical inaugurations, the Chief Minister virtually opened the new building of Luitparia Mishing Higher Secondary School in Jorhat and a student hostel building at Sivasagar University. Sarma said these facilities will bolster basic connectivity as well as educational and civic infrastructure for local communities. At the request of Jorhat MLA Hiten Goswami, the Chief Minister announced plans to develop a modern riverside park along the Bhogdoi River. He also informed that construction of a new auditorium in Jorhat is expected to be completed within the next two to three months. Officials and residents welcomed the announcements, saying the projects and proposed initiatives are likely to accelerate development in transportation, administration and education across the two districts and deliver direct benefits to citizens. The Chief Minister’s three-day tour of Upper Assam is expected to include further announcements and inspections aimed at strengthening local infrastructure and service delivery.
