25 Tonnes of Copper Scrap Among Consignment Transported Without Invoices, E-Way Bills
New Delhi, September 12, 2026: The Delhi government’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department, in coordination with railway officials, has seized around 50 tonnes of goods worth approximately ₹5 crore at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station after finding that the consignment was being transported without mandatory invoices and e-way bills.
The seized consignment included around 25 tonnes of copper scrap valued at nearly ₹3 crore, along with another 25 tonnes of mixed scrap, clothing and other goods estimated to be worth around ₹2 crore.
The consignment had arrived at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station on a train originating from Renigunta in Andhra Pradesh. Acting on intelligence that goods were being transported through the railway network without the required documentation, GST officials conducted an inspection in coordination with railway authorities.
Goods Seized Over Documentation Violations
According to the GST Department, the goods were not accompanied by mandatory invoices and e-way bills. Officials are now carrying out detailed verification of the seized goods and related documents, besides examining compliance with statutory requirements under GST law.
The department said the operation marks an important step towards strengthening surveillance of goods transported through the railway network, alongside existing monitoring of road transportation.
Coordination with railway officials and closer monitoring of railway routes are being intensified to identify unaccounted goods, irregular documentation and possible instances of tax evasion.
Strict Action Against Tax Evasion: CM Rekha Gupta
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government would not tolerate tax evasion or loss of revenue at any cost.
She said the objective was not merely to take enforcement action, but also to establish an effective system in which businesses operate transparently and all legally due taxes are collected.
The Delhi government said GST compliance would be further strengthened through increased surveillance across all modes of goods transportation, including railways.
Good governance, transparency and protection of government revenue remain key priorities, with strict action under the law to continue against those involved in tax evasion.
