Pankaj Nath, Assam , September 7: Aranyak Saikia, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, assumed charge on Monday as the new Deputy Commissioner of Nagaon district in Assam. Arriving from Diphu in the morning, he formally introduced himself to the district’s officers and staff in the DC office chamber. Saikia said he had previously served in Nagaon and was already familiar with many officers and employees, making him pleased to return to the traditionally significant and populous district. “Nagaon faces several administrative challenges due to its history and dense population. I seek cooperation from citizens and officials alike to overcome these challenges and put the district firmly on the path of development,” he said. The district administration welcomed the new deputy commissioner with a traditional bouquet, gamocha and shawl, gestures Saikia gratefully acknowledged. Immediately after assuming office, he began reviewing the work of various departments. Present at the oath-taking and reception were Manoj Kumar Shikaria, Chief Executive Officer of the District Council; Partha Pratim Bairagi, District Development Commissioner; Tejas Agnihotri, Co–District Commissioner of Kaliabor; Ankita Bora, Co–District Commissioner of Raha; Additional Commissioners Mridul Borah, Kamaljit Sharma and Deepankar Barman; Pallavi Gogoi; District Information and Public Relations Officer Bikash Sharma; District Transport Officer Simanta Bora; several Assistant Commissioners; and staff of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.The post had been vacant since Sept. 3, when the former Deputy Commissioner, Debashish Sharma, went on voluntary retirement. Saikia, who joined the IAS in 2020, began his administrative career in Nagaon as an Assistant Commissioner. He has also served as Staff Officer to the Chief Secretary and later as Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong district. Aranyak Saikia is the son of former Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia and retired Indian Railways officer Leena Sharma.
