Pankaj Nath , Assam, 2 September : A three-day memorial to honor the life and work of renowned Assamese singer and music director Zubeen Garg will begin on September 17 at the Zubeen Kshetra in Sonapur, Assam, organizers announced. The event was officially declared by his wife, Garima Saikia Garg. According to Garima Saikia Garg, the memorial aims to remember Zubeen Garg’s life, his musical contributions, and his deep influence on Assamese culture. The program will include sessions highlighting his life and work, musical performances, and remembrance speeches by contemporaries and admirers. People from various districts across Assam and neighboring regions are expected to attend. The first day of the memorial will mark “Zubeen Dibas,” featuring a prayer meeting for the repose of his soul and cultural performances dedicated to his musical journey. Local artists will pay tribute by performing some of his well-known songs and compositions.The second day will continue with cultural programs and sessions reflecting on his creative legacy and contributions to Assamese music. Artists and speakers will share memories and discuss how his music touched millions of listeners. On the third and final day, a devotional nama-kirtan (congregational chanting) will be held to seek peace for Zubeen’s soul. Organizers said the devotional ritual will bring the community together in music and prayer as a mark of collective homage. Organizers appealed to the community and well-wishers to participate enthusiastically so that Zubeen Garg’s invaluable imprint on Assamese music and culture is honored and passed on to future generations. They emphasized that the memorial will provide a platform for fans and fellow artists to celebrate his legacy and keep his memory alive through song and remembrance.
