New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with Uzbekistan’s prestigious ‘Oliy Darajali Do‘stlik’ (Order of High-Level Friendship) by Uzbek President during his visit to Uzbekistan from August 29 to 30, 2026, marking a significant moment in India-Uzbekistan ties.
On August 30, Prime Minister Modi paid floral tributes at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial in Tashkent, paying homage to the former Indian Prime Minister whose legacy remains associated with India’s enduring relationship with Uzbekistan.
The visit also evoked a personal connection for senior BJP leader Dr Vijay Jolly, who recalled that he had himself offered floral tributes at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial in Tashkent on December 21, 2014.
Sharing the memory, Jolly described the occasion as an honour and blessing, highlighting the continuing significance of Shastri’s memorial for Indian visitors to Uzbekistan.
“Feel honoured & blessed. Jai Bharat,” Jolly said in his post on X.
The developments underscore the enduring historical and diplomatic links between India and Uzbekistan, with the memorial continuing to serve as a symbolic reminder of the close bonds between the two countries.
