Pankaj Nath, Assam: Lekhapani Battalion of Assam Rifles in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, organised a comprehensive Eye Care Camp at Lekhapani, Tinsukia district, Assam, on 29 August with the aim of providing quality healthcare and essential medical assistance to the local population. The camp received an overwhelming response with residents from more than 30 villages participating and availing themselves of specialised eye care and general medical services. An Eye Specialist and General Medicine Doctors conducted detailed medical examinations, provided professional consultations, distributed medicines and eye glasses free of cost and counselled patients on preventive healthcare and the importance of timely medical intervention. The initiative was aimed at enhancing awareness about eye health, facilitating early detection of eye related ailments and ensuring access to essential healthcare services for people residing in remote and rural areas. The camp also provided an important platform for interaction with the local community, fostering greater awareness about healthcare and preventive measures. The initiative is yet another manifestation of the Assam Rifles’ ethos of “Friends of the North East”, wherein sustained community outreach and welfare initiatives remain an integral part of its engagement with the people. Such endeavours go beyond providing medical assistance and play a significant role in strengthening trust, fostering goodwill and further consolidating the bond between Assam Rifles and the local populace. Through continued community-centric initiatives in partnership with civil agencies, Assam Rifles remains committed to serving the people and contributing towards their health, welfare and overall well being, thereby further strengthening the enduring bond between the security forces and the community.
