New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday attended the valedictory ceremony of the ‘Prabodhan’ Induction Programme-2026 at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW), where a state-of-the-art lecture hall complex was also inaugurated.
The new lecture hall complex, equipped with modern facilities, is aimed at providing students with an advanced academic environment for teaching, interaction and knowledge exchange. Education Minister Ashish Sood was also present.
75 Surveillance Drones Developed for Delhi Police
Highlighting IGDTUW’s growing focus on emerging technologies, the university has expanded opportunities for women students in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Mathematics and Computing.
Under the NETRA-NAARI-NETRITVA initiative, students have developed and demonstrated 75 surveillance drones for the Delhi Police, marking a direct application of student innovation to real-world requirements.
The university has also received around ₹8 crore for its Centre of Excellence for Advanced Drone Technology and established a Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security. In addition, around ₹9 crore has been provided by the Bajaj Auto Foundation for the BEST Centre to promote advanced manufacturing, industry-oriented skills and emerging technologies.
₹1-Crore Package Marks Placement Success
The technical capabilities of IGDTUW students were further reflected in the recent placement season, with students securing more than 1,000 placement offers and the highest package reaching ₹1 crore.
The programme also saw the release of the ‘IGDTUW Times’ booklet, showcasing the university’s academic achievements, student activities, research and innovation. Outstanding students and Best Vice Chancellor Interns were felicitated on the occasion.
‘Students Must Shape India’s Future’: LG
Addressing students, Lieutenant Governor and IGDTUW Chancellor Taranjit Singh Sandhu urged them to pursue quality technical education and emerge as innovators and leaders.
Sandhu said students were “not merely preparing for future jobs, but preparing to shape the future of India.” He stressed that their generation has the opportunity to develop technologies capable of transforming healthcare, education, agriculture, manufacturing, governance and everyday life.
He encouraged students to move beyond being technology users and become creators and innovators, contributing to India’s future development.
‘Daughters Should Become Job Creators’: CM
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said daughters are leading across engineering, technology, science, space and defence, and urged students to become builders of AI and other emerging technologies.
“Technology, knowledge and experience have no gender,” she said, calling upon students to cultivate curiosity, courage and character and become job creators rather than merely job seekers.
Gupta said the Delhi government is working to ensure equal opportunities for daughters through quality education, modern infrastructure, skill development and avenues to advance their talent. She emphasised that women’s participation would be crucial to building a developed Delhi and a developed India.
₹400-Crore Startup Policy to Back Young Innovators
Education Minister Ashish Sood underlined the importance of technology, skills, innovation and practical learning in preparing students for a rapidly changing industry.
Referring to the surveillance drones developed for Delhi Police, Sood said the initiative demonstrated how technology could be transformed into practical solutions for real-world challenges. He encouraged students to develop innovations in areas including women’s safety, healthcare and green technology.
Sood said the Delhi government is also working towards an Education City spread across around 160 acres and has approved a ₹400-crore Startup and Incubation Policy to provide greater support to students and young entrepreneurs.
The Prabodhan-2026 programme thus highlighted IGDTUW’s expanding role in combining technical education, innovation, industry exposure and entrepreneurship to equip women students for emerging opportunities.
