CHANDIGARH/FEROZEPUR/BATHINDA, August 12: Punjab Police has stepped up security preparedness ahead of Independence Day 2026, with Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav directing senior officers to maintain heightened vigilance, intensify patrolling and ensure a swift, coordinated response to any emerging challenge.
On the third consecutive day of his statewide security review tour, DGP Gaurav Yadav visited Ferozepur and Bathinda to chair comprehensive Range-Level Law and Order Review Meetings, following directions from Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
“I’ve directed officers/officials to maintain heightened vigilance through strengthened patrolling, enhanced surveillance, preventive policing, effective crowd management, and a swift, coordinated response to any emerging challenge,” the DGP said.
In Ferozepur, Yadav reviewed Independence Day security arrangements for the Ferozepur and Faridkot Ranges, covering Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Fazilka, Faridkot, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Moga districts. He also conducted a ground-level inspection of the Hi-tech Naka at Talwandi Bhai in Ferozepur.
The DGP subsequently travelled to Bathinda, where he reviewed the policing plan for Independence Day, including visible deployment, security arrangements at celebration venues and public congregation points, crowd management and preparedness for possible contingencies.
A major technological boost to policing in the region came with the inauguration of the renovated, state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Centre (I3C) of Bathinda Police, constructed at a cost of ₹2.75 crore.
The upgraded centre integrates emergency response to 112 calls with city-wide CCTV surveillance, comprising 282 cameras installed at 59 strategic locations. It also incorporates wireless connectivity, video analytics and real-time crime-monitoring data.
According to the DGP, the facility will significantly strengthen the technical capabilities of Bathinda Police and serve as a force multiplier in crime monitoring, emergency response and law-and-order management.
Reaffirming Punjab Police’s commitment to a safe and secure Independence Day, Yadav stressed proactive and people-centric policing so that citizens across the state can celebrate the national day with confidence, pride and a strong sense of security.
The review meetings were attended by IGP Faridkot Range Nilambari Jagdale, DIG Bathinda Range Harjeet Singh, DIG Ferozepur Range Snehdeep Sharma, SSP Mansa Bhagirath Meena, SSP Bathinda Dr Jyoti Yadav, SSP Moga Sartaj Chahal, SSP Sangrur Ravjot Grewal, SSP Tarn Taran Surendra Lamba, SSP Sri Muktsar Sahib Abhimanyu Rana, SSP Ferozepur Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, SSP Fazilka Gagan Ajit Singh, SSP Faridkot Gurbans Singh and Staff Officer to DGP Punjab Rishabh Bhola.
