Thousands of BJP workers, school students and citizens join march led by Delhi BJP president; Praveen Khandelwal highlights unity and national pride

New Delhi: Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra led a grand “Tiranga Yatra” through the historic streets of Old Delhi on Monday as part of week-long celebrations ahead of India’s 80th Independence Day. Thousands of party workers, citizens and school students joined the march, which was also attended by Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal.

The Yatra began at Chandni Town Hall and concluded at Hauz Qazi, with the route decorated with Tricolour flags and ceremonial arches, creating a vibrant display of national pride and communal harmony.

Several local business and civic organisations established welcome platforms along the route to felicitate Malhotra, Khandelwal and other participants. The march was organised under the coordination of Chandni Chowk District President Arvind Garg.

Addressing participants, citizens and traders, Malhotra said Old Delhi held a special place in India’s national history and that beginning the Tiranga Yatra from the area was a matter of immense pride.

“The Red Fort in Old Delhi is not merely made of bricks and stones; it is from here that the Prime Minister addresses the nation every August 15. The call for independence was announced from here, and every inch of Old Delhi is steeped in sacrifice and self-respect,” Malhotra said.

Highlighting Old Delhi’s traditional cultural harmony, he said the area’s Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb reflected the spirit of the national Tricolour.

“In Old Delhi, the sound of temple bells and the azaan from mosques resonate together. In Chandni Chowk, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians celebrate festivals and share sweets together, and this unity represents the true spirit of our national Tricolour,” he said.

Malhotra called upon citizens to carry this legacy forward through the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, stressing that there should be no compromise on the honour of the national flag and the unity of the country.

Khandelwal, meanwhile, said the Tricolour represented India’s honour, pride and glory and recalled the sacrifices of the nation’s martyrs.

“The Tricolour is a symbol of our honour, pride and glory, and Independence Day reminds us of the martyrs who sacrificed everything for the nation,” Khandelwal said.

He appealed to citizens to make the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign a success by August 15 and spread the message of unity and brotherhood across the country.

The Yatra was attended by Delhi BJP State Vice President Rajesh Bhatia, Media Head Praveen Shankar Kapoor, Yuva Morcha President Rajat Chaudhary, former Mayor Jai Prakash, Municipal Councillors Suman Kumar Gupta, Usha Sharma, Vikas Tank and Sushil Jonty, Co-Office Secretary Amit Gupta and several district office-bearers.

The participation of thousands of workers and school students turned the Old Delhi march into a prominent Independence Day mobilisation centred on the Tricolour, national unity and the historic legacy of Chandni Chowk.
