New Delhi: Delhi is set to witness a major overhaul of its agricultural market infrastructure, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewing a series of redevelopment projects aimed at transforming the capital’s wholesale mandis into modern, efficient trading hubs.
Chairing a high-level review meeting on Monday, the Chief Minister assessed the progress of ongoing and proposed projects in Ghazipur, Narela and the Integrated Freight Complex (IFC), Ghazipur. She said Delhi’s agricultural markets are a vital pillar of the city’s economy and their modernisation is essential to meet the evolving needs of farmers, traders and consumers.
A key focus of the review was the ₹193-crore modern poultry market under construction in Ghazipur. Spread across nearly 15 acres, the project has achieved around 85 per cent completion and is scheduled to be ready by December 31, 2026. The facility will accommodate 100 wholesale traders and include 120 poultry processing units, creating a modern ecosystem for the sector.
The meeting also reviewed infrastructure improvements at the Ghazipur Fruit, Vegetable and Flower Market, where a 200-metre bypass drainage pipeline is being laid at a cost of ₹17 lakh to tackle waterlogging. Officials also highlighted regular drives to remove stray animals from the market to improve hygiene and operational efficiency.
At the Narela Grain Market, the Delhi Government plans to construct two new steel sheds at an estimated cost of ₹11 crore, with completion targeted by July 2027 to enhance storage and trading facilities for merchants.
The Chief Minister also reviewed plans for a modern flower market at the Integrated Freight Complex, Ghazipur, where 10 acres of land acquired from the Delhi Development Authority will be developed in phases.
Rekha Gupta reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading agricultural market infrastructure, stating that well-planned mandis with modern facilities would improve trade efficiency and strengthen Delhi’s agricultural marketing network. She added that the government is closely monitoring every project to ensure timely execution and sustainable development for the benefit of farmers, traders and consumers.
