New Delhi: BJP MLA and Delhi Government spokesperson Harish Khurana has strongly rejected allegations of any irregularity in the Delhi Government’s bicycle procurement programme, asserting that bicycles for schoolgirls were purchased through a fully transparent process and dismissing claims of a “bicycle scam” as politically motivated.

Addressing the issue on Saturday, Khurana alleged that the accusations raised by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders were aimed at diverting public attention from what he described as the Punjab Government’s alleged school bag procurement controversy and multiple examination paper leak cases. He claimed the allegations were based solely on a complaint made by a private company and lacked any factual basis.

The BJP legislator maintained that the Delhi Government followed all due procedures while procuring bicycles for schoolgirls, emphasising that there had been no irregularities in the process. He added that bicycles are available in a wide range of models and price categories, making price comparisons without considering specifications misleading.

Khurana also criticised AAP’s political conduct, alleging that the party was attempting to deflect attention from issues in Punjab by raising what he termed “baseless” allegations against the Delhi Government. He further claimed that the Punjab Government’s procurement of school bags had drawn criticism from local manufacturers and traders, while protests over alleged examination paper leaks continued in the state.

Reiterating his stand, Khurana said the Delhi Government remains committed to transparency and accountability in public procurement and asserted that the bicycle distribution initiative was undertaken solely for the benefit of the city’s schoolgirls.
