Bangkok: The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), Embassy of India, Bangkok, inaugurated the exhibition “Weaving Two Cultures – The Textile Heritage of India and Thailand” on July 18, celebrating the centuries-old textile traditions and deep cultural ties shared by the two nations.

The exhibition opened with a keynote address by Prof. Dr. Sitthichai Smanchat of Ubon Ratchathani University, who presented “Thai Textile and Thailand’s Cultural Relations with India.” An ICCR alumnus and graduate of Visva-Bharati University, India, Prof. Dr. Sitthichai highlighted the historical influence of India on Thailand’s textile heritage through an engaging presentation and a curated display of traditional fabrics from different regions of Thailand, showcasing their craftsmanship, symbolism and living traditions.

Adding an Indian perspective, renowned author, heritage researcher and cultural educator Anita Bose delivered a presentation titled “India Woven: Stories of Sarees, Looms and Living Traditions.” She showcased handwoven sarees and textiles from across India, narrating the rich stories, weaving techniques and cultural significance behind the country’s diverse textile traditions, reflecting the enduring legacy of India’s artisan communities.
