Pakistan Earthquake: Two earthquakes struck Pakistan within a matter of hours on Saturday morning, sparking panic in several parts of the country. The back-to-back tremors prompted many residents to leave their homes and office buildings as a precaution, although no immediate casualties or significant damage have been reported.

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the latest earthquake measured magnitude 5.4. It followed another tremor on Friday evening, which registered a magnitude of 5.3 and originated at a depth of 75 kilometres. The earthquakes were felt across multiple regions, with authorities continuing to monitor the situation for any reports of damage or injuries.

Initial assessments had placed Saturday’s earthquake at magnitude 5.4 before it was later revised to 5.5. The succession of earthquakes once again underlines Pakistan’s high seismic risk. The country sits along the collision zone between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, making it one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the world. The latest tremor forms part of a recent sequence of seismic activity affecting the region.

In a separate development, Venezuela was struck by another earthquake on Friday, when a magnitude 4.9 tremor hit off the country’s northern coast. The quake occurred just two days after two devastating earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 caused widespread destruction across several parts of the country.

The earlier earthquakes left a trail of devastation, with numerous buildings collapsing in Caracas and neighbouring areas. Venezuelan authorities have confirmed that the death toll has risen to 920, while at least 3,360 people have sustained injuries.

Venezuela Earthquake: Death toll tops 920, over 50,000 missing as rescue efforts intensify

As of Friday afternoon, 871 international rescue personnel were assisting local authorities in ongoing search and relief operations. More than 50,000 people were still reported missing, according to data collected through a dedicated missing persons reporting platform.

Emergency crews continue to work around the clock in the affected areas as persistent aftershocks hamper rescue efforts and complicate recovery operations. Authorities remain on high alert, closely monitoring seismic activity and preparing for any further developments.
