Jalandhar/Chandigarh: In a major crackdown on illegal arms trafficking in Punjab, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has busted an arms smuggling module and arrested three accused with five .32 bore pistols, nine magazines, and 22 live cartridges.
The arrested accused have been identified as Manjot Singh, Sandeep Singh, and Amandeep Singh alias Aman, all residents of Gurdaspur district.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations revealed that the module was actively involved in illegal arms smuggling across Punjab. He added that efforts are underway to trace both backward and forward linkages to dismantle the entire network.
Sharing details of the operation, Commissioner of Police (CP) Dhanpreet Kaur said police teams, acting on specific intelligence inputs, first apprehended Manjot Singh near Jalandhar Bus Stand and recovered one pistol from his possession.
During interrogation, Manjot disclosed the names of his associates, following which police arrested Sandeep and Amandeep from Bhaini Paswal village in Gurdaspur.
Further recoveries were made based on Amandeep’s disclosure, leading to the seizure of four more pistols, eight magazines, and 18 live cartridges hidden near Dhusi Bundh in Gurdaspur.
Police said further arrests and recoveries are likely as the investigation progresses.
A case under the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Division-6, Jalandhar Commissionerate.
