Bajaur Attack: A devastating suicide assault struck a Pakistani Army camp in the Bajaur region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, leaving at least 15 soldiers feared dead and several others injured, according to preliminary reports. Official confirmation of casualties is still awaited.
Sources said the attackers launched the assault with a massive explosion near a military installation inside the camp, triggering panic and confusion among security personnel. Moments later, heavily armed militants stormed the facility, leading to an intense and prolonged exchange of fire with Pakistani security forces.
The banned terror outfit Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the group said the operation was carried out by its so-called “Special Istishhadi Forces (SIF)”.
Security forces have since sealed off the area and launched a large-scale search operation. Authorities have also tightened security across nearby districts amid fears of further attacks. Officials indicated that the strike appeared to be highly coordinated and involved sophisticated planning along with heavy weaponry.
The latest incident highlights the deteriorating security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighbouring tribal regions, where militant violence has surged in recent weeks. Earlier this week, another suicide bombing in Naurang Bazaar in Lakki Marwat district killed several people, including police personnel.
