Chandigarh: In a major crackdown on organised crime, the Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in a joint operation with SAS Nagar Police, has arrested four alleged operatives linked to foreign-based gangsters and recovered two foreign-made .30 calibre pistols along with eight live cartridges.

The accused — identified as Arman Singh, Chirag, Ravinder Singh alias Rahul and Akshay alias Prince, all from Patiala district — were apprehended near Janetpur link road on the Ambala-Chandigarh Highway. Police also seized a Honda Amaze sedan used by the suspects.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations have linked one of the arrested accused, Akshay alias Prince, to the 2025 murder of an Abohar-based ‘Wear Well’ showroom owner, alleging he provided logistical support to the main assailants.

According to police, the arrests followed specific intelligence inputs about the movement of the suspects towards SAS Nagar, prompting the setting up of special checkpoints along the highway. Additional Director General of Police Promod Ban said the suspects were intercepted during the operation and weapons recovered from their possession.

Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Hans said initial investigations indicate the accused were allegedly tasked by foreign-based handlers to execute major crimes in Punjab, adding that the arrests had helped avert serious criminal incidents in the region.

Police said further investigations are underway to trace the module’s wider network and establish forward and backward linkages, with more arrests likely in the coming days.

An FIR has been registered at Police Station Dera Bassi under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
