New Delhi: The United Diplomatic Council hosted the launch of India–Latin America: The Unexplored Partnership, a new book examining the economic and strategic potential between India and the Latin American region, with diplomats, trade representatives and business leaders calling for deeper cross-continental engagement.
Authored and edited by Huma Siddiqui and Dr Aparaajita Pandey, the publication explores opportunities in trade, energy, agriculture, technology and investment, while outlining a roadmap for stronger cooperation between India and Latin America.
The event was attended by the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and representatives from Paraguay, Cuba, Ecuador, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Guatemala and Colombia, signalling growing diplomatic interest in expanding ties with India. Representatives from the SCO Trade Council and the India EU Trade Council, along with entrepreneurs and industry experts, also participated.
Speaking at the launch, Huma Siddiqui said the book sought to bridge an information gap and bring India and Latin America closer by highlighting shared aspirations and economic complementarities.
A key feature of the publication is the inclusion of perspectives from ambassadors and diplomats from the Latin American region. Supporting the initiative, Uruguay’s Ambassador to India, Alberto Antonio Guani, said India and Latin America shared a natural complementarity in resources, innovation and ambition, adding that such initiatives could strengthen economic partnerships and sustained dialogue.
Dr Asif Iqbal described the book as a roadmap for policymakers, businesses and diplomats to explore new avenues of cooperation and redefine global partnerships amid a changing world order.
The launch underscored growing momentum for deeper India-Latin America cooperation, with participants highlighting the expanding role of both regions in global trade, innovation and sustainable development. Organisers said the publication would contribute to strategic dialogue and help transform what has long been viewed as an underexplored relationship into a stronger and more enduring partnership.
