Damascus, Syria — In a significant visit to the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Professor Walid Qassas, a renowned figure in sports science and martial arts, met with key officials to discuss the future development of strength throwing and self-defense sports in Syria. The visit took place alongside a lecture organized by the Syrian Arab Federation for Martial Arts, which aimed to highlight the history and significance of these disciplines.
Accompanied by his delegation, including Mr. Omar Khalid, Mr. Ayman Radwan, and Mr. Yassin Al-Mashaan, President of the Syrian Arab Federation for Martial Arts, Professor Qassas was warmly received by high-ranking officials at the Ministry. The delegation was greeted by:

- Mr. Sarya Al-Jazairi, President of the Syrian Arab Kickboxing Federation
- Mr. Mamoun Kharbout, President of the Syrian Arab Karate Federation
During the meeting, the group engaged in detailed discussions about ways to advance sports related to strength throwing and self-defense, focusing on how these practices can benefit Syria’s growing sports community.
The visit culminated in a thoughtful exchange of gifts, with Professor Qassas presenting a copy of his acclaimed book Sports Medicine to the Ministry. The book was received on behalf of the Minister by his Assistant and Advisor, marking a symbolic gesture of knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
Earlier in the day, the General Sports Union hall in the Tishreen Sports City hosted a lecture by Professor Qassas, which was organized under the auspices of the Syrian Arab Federation for Martial Arts. The session, attended by an enthusiastic crowd of around 100 attendees, spanned from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with Professor Qassas sharing his insights into the history and importance of strength throwing and self-defense sports. Following a break, the lecture resumed from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM, further delving into practical aspects of these sports.
As a part of the program, Professor Qassas also presented a copy of his book to Mr. Yassin Al-Mashaan, President of the Syrian Arab Federation for Martial Arts, as a token of appreciation for his role in facilitating the event.
Looking ahead, the next phase of the event will be the start of a specialized training course, which is scheduled to begin tomorrow at Al-Fayhaa Hall. Professor Qassas will lead the session at 11:00 AM, further expanding the scope of training in strength throwing and self-defense techniques for local athletes.
The event marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between academic experts, sports federations, and the Syrian Ministry of Sports and Youth, as the country continues to invest in the development of diverse sports disciplines.
