Bangkok (Page 3 News Worldwide): Former police officer Santhana Prayoonrat, long known as a controversial figure in Thailand’s law-enforcement circles, was arrested on Monday at a condominium in Bangkok’s Ploenchit area for his alleged role in the abduction of a Taiwanese businessman four years ago.
Metropolitan police officers detained Santhana in the early afternoon before escorting him to Thonglor Police Station for questioning. He is expected to face charges related to kidnapping and extortion stemming from the 2020 incident, in which the foreign businessman was reportedly held against his will.
Police have not released further details about the investigation but said additional suspects may also be pursued as the case progresses.
Santhana, a former Special Branch police officer, has faced scrutiny in the past over alleged involvement in several high-profile controversies. His latest arrest marks a renewed push by authorities to resolve lingering criminal cases with international implications.
Further updates are expected as investigators continue their interrogation and review evidence linked to the incident.
