Republic of Balochistan pitches mineral wealth, maritime access and regional trade potential, while challenging Pakistan’s territorial and geopolitical claims
The Republic of Balochistan has called on the international community to reassess the region’s strategic importance and consider its formal recognition as an independent country, highlighting its mineral wealth, rare earth resources, extensive coastline and potential to emerge as a major centre of global trade and investment.
In a press statement issued on October 31, 2026, titled “The Republic of Balochistan: The Game Changer; Pakistan: The Reckless Gambler”, authored by Mir Yar Baloch, the Republic argued that Balochistan possesses significant geopolitical and economic importance that should be distinguished from Pakistan’s national interests.
The statement alleged that Pakistan has, for decades, projected Balochistan’s geographical position, natural resources and maritime access as part of its own strategic importance to international powers, securing financial assistance and geopolitical advantages in the process.
It further maintained that Balochistan’s political aspirations and economic potential are increasingly being presented to governments and international institutions through the efforts of Baloch diplomats and international representatives.
Challenges Pakistan’s territorial claims
The statement also raised questions about the historical and legal status of Pakistan’s borders with Afghanistan and Iran, arguing that these issues require examination under international law and historical evidence. It advanced the position that Pakistan’s territorial legitimacy should be reassessed and made further claims concerning the historical origins of the Pakistani state following the 1947 partition of British India.
It also argued that the independence of Balochistan and Sindh would fundamentally alter Pakistan’s geographical position, leaving it without direct access to the sea.
Calls for recognition and self-determination
Emphasising the political aspirations of Balochistan’s approximately 60 million inhabitants, the Republic called for an end to what it described as Pakistan’s military occupation and external control. It asserted that the people of Balochistan have the right to determine their political future, exercise control over their homeland and pursue international recognition as an independent nation.
The statement urged governments and international institutions not to overlook these aspirations and called for direct diplomatic engagement with Baloch representatives.
Opens doors to global investment and trade
Outlining its proposed international engagement, the Republic of Balochistan expressed readiness to establish diplomatic, economic and commercial relations with regional and global powers.
Its proposed areas of cooperation include international investment, maritime infrastructure development, foreign trade, critical mineral partnerships and regional connectivity. It also offered to establish transparent arrangements for the development of natural resources, with inclusive governance and decision-making as guiding principles.
The statement concluded with an appeal to the international community to directly engage with Balochistan’s representatives, examine the historical and political questions surrounding its status, and give serious consideration to the formal recognition of the Republic of Balochistan.
The declaration places international recognition, political self-determination and economic sovereignty at the centre of Balochistan’s diplomatic outreach.
