New Delhi: Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor on Monday criticised AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj for continuing to stage protests following the registration of police cases against Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh, AAP MLA Jarnail Singh and others in connection with the recent Vikaspuri incident.
Kapoor said the incident involving Pravesh Sahib Singh was unfortunate and should never have occurred. However, he alleged that developments following the incident had brought Jarnail Singh’s record into focus.
The BJP spokesperson said that despite legal action, Bharadwaj’s continued protests were “condemnable” and amounted to an attempt to divert the attention of people in Delhi, particularly in Tilak Nagar, while vitiating the political atmosphere in the city.
Kapoor said that although Jarnail Singh had won elections continuously since 2013, allegations had also been levelled against him from the beginning over alleged harassment of Municipal Corporation and government employees, builders and contractors of various government departments, and making demands from them.
He further claimed that Singh’s record between 2013 and 2015 had remained questionable, citing police complaints allegedly filed by Municipal Corporation engineers, allegations concerning assault on civic employees and the appointment of an aide who allegedly used a Dubai phone number.
Kapoor said Singh should remain accountable to the people of Delhi over these matters.
Reiterating that the incident involving Pravesh Sahib Singh should never have happened, Kapoor said the subsequent revelations concerning Jarnail Singh had shifted attention towards his past record. He alleged that Bharadwaj’s continued protests, despite the police cases, were aimed at diverting public attention from the issue.
