New Delhi: Senior Indian BJP leader Dr Vijay Jolly paid a courtesy call on Papua New Guinea (PNG) High Commissioner H.E. Vincent W. Sumale in New Delhi, during which he presented him with a replica of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir and a saffron scarf.
The meeting focused on India-Papua New Guinea strategic relations, with discussions covering the promotion of bilateral trade and tourism. Dr Jolly also fondly recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Papua New Guinea and the widely noted gesture of PNG Prime Minister James Marape touching Prime Minister Modi’s feet.
Highlighting the growing people-to-people links between the two countries, Dr Jolly noted that around 1,600 PNG youngsters are currently studying at Indian universities. Nearly 4,000 people of Indian origin are also living in Papua New Guinea, reflecting longstanding social and cultural ties between India and PNG.
The interaction underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral friendship and expanding cooperation in education, trade and tourism.
