New Delhi, September 21, 2026: Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta on Monday launched the ‘Delhi PM Surya Ghar’ registration portal under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, aiming to make rooftop solar installation easier for households across the national capital.

Launched under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ at the Delhi Secretariat, the portal — solar.delhi.gov.in — will enable residents to register for rooftop solar systems, access subsidy information, identify authorised vendors and use related services through a single digital platform.

The Chief Minister said the Centre and Delhi Government together would provide a combined subsidy of up to ₹1.56 lakh for rooftop solar systems of up to 3 kW. The Centre provides a subsidy of up to ₹78,000, while the Delhi Government has announced a matching subsidy of ₹78,000.

Domestic consumers with an average monthly electricity consumption of up to 400 units will be eligible for rooftop solar systems of up to 3 kW without upfront payment, according to the scheme details. Any additional cost gap will also be addressed through government assistance.

Solar push for homes and housing societies

The initiative will also cover group housing societies, with the subsidy for solar systems installed in common areas and open spaces increased from ₹2,000 to ₹11,000 per kW.

For households with limited rooftop space, the government is encouraging smaller solar systems of up to 2 kW, with a target of 50 per cent of consumers opting for such installations.

A special incentive has also been announced for consumers in the 0–200 unit electricity consumption category. If rooftop solar helps a consumer reduce consumption, the government will provide a financial incentive equivalent to 75 units for every 150 units saved in the example cited by the Chief Minister.

Five-year maintenance support

Under the government’s trusteeship model with discoms, authorised vendors will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of solar systems for the first five years. Thereafter, maintenance arrangements will continue through the discoms over the system’s expected 25–30-year life.

Under the Utility Led Aggregation (ULA) model, eligible low-income and economically weaker families will receive rooftop solar systems without upfront costs, with government subsidy adjusted against the system cost.

The registration process opened on September 21 and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Consumers can register using their CA number and provide the required details and consent through the portal.

2.30 lakh families targeted

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the expansion of rooftop solar would support clean energy generation, energy conservation and financial relief for Delhi families. The government has set a target of installing rooftop solar systems free of cost at 2.30 lakh homes.

Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood said the initiative would allow residents to benefit from solar energy for nearly 25 years while potentially creating an additional avenue for household income.

Sood said the first phase would target more than 2.30 lakh families and expressed confidence that effective implementation of the initiative would help Delhi move towards becoming the country’s “Solar Capital”.

The government said the digital portal is intended to simplify access to rooftop solar installations, subsidies, authorised vendors and grievance-related services while accelerating Delhi’s transition towards clean energy.
