New Delhi, September 19, 2026: Delhi’s long-pending Barapullah Phase III corridor is set to be inaugurated on September 29, with Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah scheduled to inaugurate the project in the presence of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, PWD Minister Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh said.

Parvesh Sahib Singh on Saturday inspected the project site and reviewed the final preparations, taking stock of the infrastructure completed for the much-awaited corridor.

Phase III will provide a signal-free connection between Mayur Vihar Phase I in East Delhi and Sarai Kale Khan, with connectivity extending further towards AIIMS and South Delhi. It will link with the existing Barapullah corridor at Sarai Kale Khan, taking the combined corridor to approximately 9 km.

“For more than a decade, Delhi has been waiting for this project to become a reality. The project had remained delayed under the previous government. After the formation of our government, we followed up on the project, reviewed its progress at every stage and worked to complete the necessary permissions and clearances,” Parvesh Sahib Singh said.

“With these efforts, the long-pending work has now been completed and the corridor is ready to be opened for the people of Delhi,” he added.

The Minister said the inauguration assumes added significance as it is being held during celebrations marking the birthday of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

He further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the focus on strengthening infrastructure and improving urban connectivity had given renewed momentum to projects important for Delhi.

“With the guidance and support of Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji, we are working to ensure that Delhi’s infrastructure projects move forward with greater pace and accountability,” Singh said.

Project Approved in 2014

The Barapullah Phase III project was approved in 2014, while construction began in 2015. It was initially targeted for completion in 2017 but subsequently faced delays, resulting in an increase in the project cost. The revised cost stands at approximately ₹1,635 crore.

PWD officials informed the Minister that both ramps of the elevated corridor have been completed. One ramp connects the Mayur Vihar side, while the other links the corridor with the existing Barapullah route near Sarai Kale Khan.

The extra-dosed bridge across the Yamuna has also been completed and forms part of the connecting structure of the elevated corridor.

Cycle Track, Pedestrian Infrastructure

The corridor includes a dedicated cycle track along with pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, providing additional mobility options for Delhi residents.

“The project has been designed keeping different kinds of road users in mind. Along with vehicular connectivity, the dedicated cycle track and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure will provide additional mobility options for Delhi residents,” Parvesh Sahib Singh said.

With the elevated corridor, connecting ramps and Yamuna bridge completed, the Delhi PWD is now focused on final arrangements for the September 29 inauguration.

The completion of Phase III will provide the long-awaited link between Mayur Vihar and the existing Barapullah corridor at Sarai Kale Khan, strengthening road connectivity between East and South Delhi.
