Chandigarh/Pathankot, September 11: In a major breakthrough in Punjab Police’s ongoing drive to strengthen security in the state, Counter Intelligence (CI) Pathankot has arrested two alleged operatives accused of plotting a targeted killing and recovered two sophisticated .30-bore pistols and 10 live cartridges from their possession.
The arrested persons have been identified as Ravinder Singh alias Dhillon, a resident of Dhilwan in Batala, and Jashanpreet Singh, a resident of village Bal in Gurdaspur. Police also seized their brand-new Splendor motorcycle, which was reportedly being used without a registration number.
According to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigation has revealed that the two suspects were allegedly working at the behest of a foreign-based handler and had recently returned from Dubai to carry out the assigned task.
The DGP said further investigation is underway to establish the backward and forward linkages of the network and identify other operatives allegedly connected with the foreign-based handlers.
Sharing operational details, AIG CI Pathankot Sukhminder Singh Mann said police had received specific intelligence that two motorcycle-borne persons carrying weapons were travelling from Gurdaspur towards Batala and were allegedly preparing to execute a target killing.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence input, CI Pathankot teams cordoned off the area and intercepted the suspects on the outskirts of Gurdaspur. Both men were arrested while travelling on their motorcycle.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of two .30-bore pistols and 10 live cartridges, police said.
A case, FIR No. 57 dated September 10, 2026, has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
Investigators are continuing their probe to uncover the wider network and determine the role of other persons linked to the alleged foreign-based handlers.
