New Delhi, September 10, 2026: Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Shri Vijender Gupta urged young people to remain confident about their future, focus on giving their best and contribute meaningfully to nation-building during an interaction with University of Delhi students at the Assembly.
“Do not take pressure about what the future holds. Focus on giving your best, keep learning, remain curious and contribute whatever you can towards nation-building. Every young person has a role in shaping the India of tomorrow,” Shri Gupta said while addressing students visiting the Delhi Legislative Assembly under its Youth Outreach Programme.
Students from Kirori Mal College, Sukhdev College, Law Centre-I, Law Centre-II and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College participated in the programme, which seeks to connect young people with democratic institutions beyond classrooms and textbooks.
The interaction provided students from diverse academic backgrounds an opportunity to discuss democracy, constitutional values, public life and the responsibilities of young citizens. Shri Gupta advised students not to allow academic, professional or social pressures to overshadow their potential.
He emphasised that nation-building is not restricted to politics or public office and said every individual can contribute through his or her chosen profession. “Whatever profession you choose, perform it with honesty, excellence and a sense of responsibility towards society,” he said.
The Speaker also highlighted the importance of an informed and responsible citizenry in strengthening democracy. He encouraged students to listen to differing viewpoints, ask questions and understand issues before forming opinions. According to him, disagreement and debate are essential elements of a vibrant democracy when conducted within the framework of constitutional values and mutual respect.
The students actively interacted with Shri Gupta on the functioning of the legislature, the role of elected representatives, democratic participation and the relationship between citizens and public institutions. They also raised questions and shared their views on contemporary issues and the role of young citizens in a changing India.
As part of the educational visit, the students undertook a guided tour of the historic Delhi Legislative Assembly complex. They were acquainted with its distinctive architectural character and its place in India’s parliamentary history.
Through documentaries and presentations, the students learnt about the building’s association with the Central Legislative Assembly and the personalities and developments linked to its historic legacy. They were also introduced to the Assembly’s commemorative Coffee Table Book, “Ek Shatabdi Yatra”, which traces the institution’s historic journey and parliamentary heritage.
The visit also took the students inside the main Assembly Chamber, giving them a first-hand glimpse of the setting where legislative debates, discussions and proceedings are conducted.
Shri Vijender Gupta called upon the students to remain connected with India’s constitutional and democratic heritage while approaching the future with confidence. He said the energy, ideas and capabilities of young people would be decisive in realising the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
The Speaker urged the students to make the best use of their opportunities, remain grounded in constitutional values and contribute positively to society, reinforcing the Delhi Assembly’s effort to build a stronger connect between Gen Z and India’s democratic institutions.
