New Delhi, September 9, 2026: Delhi Higher Education Minister Ashish Sood on Wednesday urged students of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) to move beyond conventional ambitions and actively contribute to solving civic challenges, while highlighting the Delhi Government’s plans for stronger PG regulation, start-up mentoring and participatory governance.

Addressing the inaugural session of the Students’ Induction Programme 2026 at GGSIPU, Sood welcomed the new batch and described them as the “Amrit Peedhi” that would carry forward the vision of a Viksit Bharat.

Sood emphasised the need to substantially expand quality higher education opportunities for Delhi’s youth. He said the government and educational institutions must work together to create more campuses, improve facilities and strengthen academic ecosystems.

The Minister said the Delhi Government was also working towards a stronger legislative mechanism concerning education and PG facilities, aimed at providing students with a safer and more supportive living environment.

Linking education with responsible citizenship, Sood called upon students to become active participants in governance and contribute ideas towards addressing Delhi’s civic challenges. He stressed that along with rights and opportunities, young citizens must understand their responsibilities towards the country.

Highlighting the Government’s start-up push, Sood said the proposed incubation policy would seek to provide promising student ideas with appropriate mentorship and institutional support.

He also cautioned students against allowing social media to influence their judgement without critical reflection, while stressing that ethics and values must remain at the heart of professional success.

GGSIPU Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma reminded the new students that studying at an institution carrying the name of Guru Gobind Singh Ji was both a privilege and a responsibility. He urged them to embrace courage, resilience, knowledge, farsightedness, strength and service to humanity.

Verma also encouraged students to make full use of interdisciplinary opportunities under the National Education Policy, highlighting the university’s growing portfolio of projects, prototypes and patents developed through collaboration between students and faculty.

He further highlighted GGSIPU’s expanding academic presence across Dwarka, Surajmal Vihar in East Delhi and the emerging Narela campus, describing the expansion as part of efforts to widen access to quality higher education in the capital.

The Students’ Induction Programme 2026 aims to familiarise newly admitted students with the university’s academic, research, innovation, student welfare and co-curricular ecosystem. The programme will continue on September 9, 10 and 14, featuring interactive and orientation sessions to help students make a confident transition into university life.
