London: The Republic of Balochistan has issued an open letter to the 11 BRICS member states, urging them to place the question of Balochistan’s national status, right to self-determination and independence on the agenda of the BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 12–13.

Addressed to the heads of state and government of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Indonesia, the letter calls for diplomatic, political, economic and security engagement with what it describes as the “Republic of Balochistan”.

The appeal argues that BRICS, as a platform representing cooperation across the Global South, should consider issues of sovereignty, self-determination, sustainable development and equitable resource management alongside its broader economic and geopolitical agenda.

Strategic Location, Natural Resources Highlighted

The Republic of Balochistan describes the region as an ancient land with a history stretching back thousands of years, citing Mehrgarh as evidence of early settled agricultural communities dating to the seventh millennium BCE.

The letter also highlights Balochistan’s strategic geography, describing it as a crossroads linking South Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and the Arabian Sea. It points to the region’s coastline, maritime potential and access to major trade routes as possible foundations for future regional connectivity.

The appeal further underlines Balochistan’s mineral and natural resources, including copper, gold, coal and natural gas, while identifying renewable energy, agriculture, fisheries and livestock as sectors with potential for international investment and cooperation.

Call for Diplomatic and Economic Engagement

The Republic of Balochistan has urged BRICS members to consider diplomatic engagement and future diplomatic relations, as well as partnerships in trade, infrastructure, energy, mineral processing, maritime development and technology.

It has also called for cooperation in health, education, food security, climate change, humanitarian assistance and disaster management, while proposing people-to-people exchanges involving universities, businesses, researchers, civil society and youth.

The letter additionally appeals for consideration of Balochistan’s future participation as a partner within the wider Global South cooperation framework and, where appropriate, eventual inclusion in BRICS mechanisms.

Aimed at a Multipolar Global Order

The Republic of Balochistan argues that its case should be considered within the wider international debate on self-determination, sovereignty and a more representative global order.

The letter says Balochistan seeks “partnership, recognition, peaceful cooperation and shared prosperity”, rather than confrontation, and presents a sovereign Balochistan as a potential partner for BRICS in trade, energy security, maritime connectivity, climate resilience, food security and regional peace.

The appeal comes ahead of the September 12–13 BRICS Summit in New Delhi, with the Republic of Balochistan calling on member states to consider its political status and aspirations for independence as part of the summit’s broader Global South agenda.
