London: The Republic of Balochistan has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the catastrophic flash floods that struck Nepal on August 26, extending condolences to the families of those killed and solidarity to all those affected by the disaster.

According to the statement issued by the Republic of Balochistan, the devastating surge of water, mud, rocks and debris crossed into Nepal from Tibet through the Bhote Koshi River at around 8:40 a.m. and reached Syabrubesi in Rasuwa district within approximately ten minutes, causing extensive destruction along the river corridor.

The disaster has severely affected Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan, Gorkha, Tanahun and Nawalparasi districts, among other areas. Homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and other critical infrastructure have reportedly been destroyed.

The Republic of Balochistan said it had learnt from media reports that the catastrophe, triggered by a massive ice-rock and glacial collapse in the Himalayan region, had claimed at least 469 lives in Nepal, while hundreds were injured and nearly 1,000 people remained missing as search and rescue operations continued in extremely difficult conditions.

Expressing its deepest sympathies, the Republic of Balochistan said its thoughts and prayers were with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives. It also wished a swift recovery for the injured and strength, patience and courage for families affected by the calamity.

“The Republic of Balochistan stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Nepal in this hour of immense grief and sorrow,” the statement said, expressing solidarity, compassion and sympathy with those affected.

The statement added that the Republic of Balochistan’s thoughts and prayers remained with the people of Nepal as the country faces the difficult task of rescue, recovery and rebuilding following the devastating natural disaster.
