Balochistan: The Independent Republic of Balochistan has appealed to international archaeological, historical and cultural institutions to help protect the region’s ancient heritage following the reported discovery of valuable artefacts and archaeological remains in Dera Bugti and Kohlu.
The Republic said Balochistan is home to some of the oldest traces of human civilisation, including Mehrgarh and sites associated with the Indus Valley Civilisation, describing the discoveries as important evidence of thousands of years of human, cultural and civilisational history.
According to the statement, local people recently unearthed ancient artefacts during excavations in Dera Bugti, while further archaeological remains were reportedly discovered in the Kohlu region. The Republic said such objects could provide valuable evidence about ancient society, trade, art, religion, technology and ways of life.
The statement called on international institutions, archaeologists, historians, museums and organisations dedicated to preserving ancient civilisations to assist in protecting, documenting and scientifically researching the discoveries.
The Republic of Balochistan expressed concern that the artefacts could face destruction, illegal transfer, neglect or loss without urgent international attention and professional conservation.
It further alleged that pressure on educational and cultural institutions, libraries and individuals researching Baloch history and culture has created additional concerns over the preservation of the region’s historical record.
“These archaeological remains are not merely the heritage of the Baloch people; they are part of the shared civilisational heritage of all humanity,” the statement said.
The Republic urged the international community to facilitate expert research and documentation and ensure that the ancient remains are protected from illegal trade, destruction and other forms of damage.
It said Balochistan wanted to preserve its archaeological legacy and present it to the world “with dignity”, allowing future generations to study and take pride in the region’s ancient history.
The appeal was issued on 22 August by the Independent Republic of Balochistan.
