CHANDIGARH/FEROZEPUR, August 11: Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has busted another cross-border narcotics smuggling module in Ferozepur, arresting three people and recovering 30.672 kg of heroin, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Anmolpreet Singh alias Anmol, 24, of Kasuri Gate, Ferozepur; Akash Singh alias Akash, 22, originally from village Gulam Pattra and currently residing in Sant Kabir Nagar, Ferozepur; and Anshpreet Singh alias Ansh, 25, of Raj Ghat, Ferozepur.

Police also seized a Hyundai Verna car (PB-77-5973) allegedly being used for the smuggling operation.

According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigation has revealed that the heroin consignment was sent across the International Border by a foreign-based drug smuggler and received by an Indian smuggler near village Ali Ke in Ferozepur for further transportation and distribution.

“Further investigation is underway to establish the backward and forward linkages of the network and identify all persons connected with the cross-border handlers,” the DGP said.

ADGP ANTF Nilabh Kishore said the operation followed concrete human intelligence regarding the movement of the consignment after its retrieval. ANTF teams led by SP ANTF Ferozepur Range Gurinderbir Singh laid a coordinated trap along the Ferozepur-Fazilka road, intercepting the suspects travelling in the Hyundai Verna.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 30.672 kg of heroin, the ADGP said, adding that more arrests and recoveries were expected as the investigation progresses.
