Chandigarh/Ludhiana, August 11: In a major breakthrough in the murder of Ludhiana property dealer Harjinder Singh alias Harry Jhanda, the Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in a joint operation with Commissionerate Ludhiana Police, has arrested two alleged accused and recovered a 9mm Glock pistol along with a live cartridge.

The arrested persons have been identified as Manjit Singh alias Bobby and Mohit Kumar, both residents of Chanderlok Colony, Ludhiana.

According to Punjab Police, several armed persons allegedly attacked Harjinder Singh with pistols and sharp-edged weapons in Swatantra Nagar, Ludhiana, at around 11.30 pm on August 7, resulting in his death.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the latest arrests were part of the state police’s ongoing drive to make Punjab safer and dismantle organised crime and gangster networks.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Manjit Singh alias Bobby has a criminal history and has been involved in multiple criminal cases, including attempted murder and offences under the NDPS Act. Police also said he was operating a local gang in the Ludhiana city area.

ADGP AGTF Promod Ban said the task force received credible human intelligence about the whereabouts of two accused wanted in the murder case. The information was shared with the Technical Cell, which successfully traced their movements. Acting on the technical inputs, AGTF teams led by Inspector Vikramjeet Singh, in coordination with Commissionerate Ludhiana Police, arrested the two suspects from the Tibba area.

Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said the remaining persons allegedly involved in the crime have been identified and police teams are conducting a manhunt to apprehend them.
