New Delhi: The Delhi Legislative Assembly’s weekly Youth Outreach Programme expanded its international and national reach on Saturday as Speaker Shri Vijender Gupta interacted with a delegation from the BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industry Youth Leadership Dialogue 3.0 and student parliamentarians from Chhatra Sansad of DPS Lava, Nagpur.

The programme, initiated by Speaker Vijender Gupta, aims to connect young people with democratic institutions and provide them with firsthand exposure to legislative functioning, parliamentary traditions and governance.

During his interaction with the BRICS Youth Leadership Dialogue 3.0 delegation, comprising students, young professionals, researchers and emerging leaders from India and other BRICS and BRICS Plus nations, Gupta held discussions on governance, public policy, diplomacy, entrepreneurship and global cooperation.

Highlighting the importance of youth participation in global affairs, Gupta said, “Democracy and good governance are universal values that thrive when young minds from diverse nations engage in cross-border dialogue. Empowering youth with public policy insights and diplomatic understanding is vital for driving sustainable development and global stability.”

The visiting students from Chhatra Sansad, DPS Lava, Nagpur, participated in a dedicated orientation programme aimed at strengthening civic awareness and their understanding of legislative procedures. They were given firsthand insights into how Bills are debated, laws enacted and executive accountability maintained within a parliamentary system.

Both delegations also toured the historic Delhi Assembly building, constructed in 1912 and originally used as the Central Legislative Assembly. The visitors were briefed on its role in India’s legislative evolution and the freedom movement, as well as the contribution of pioneering parliamentarians, including Shri Vitthalbhai Patel.

The delegates were also apprised of the Delhi Legislative Assembly’s institutional journey since its re-establishment in 1993. As part of the immersive experience, they watched a commemorative documentary on the Assembly’s history, narrated by Padma Bhushan awardee Shri Anupam Kher, and received copies of the landmark coffee-table publication Ek Shatabdi Yatra.

Reiterating the objective of the Youth Outreach Programme, Gupta said sustained interaction between public institutions and young people is essential for nurturing responsible and informed citizens and preparing the next generation of leaders.

The Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat conducts the Youth Outreach Programme every Saturday, seeking to strengthen links between democratic institutions, academic bodies and youth organisations at both national and international levels.
