Chandigarh/Amritsar: In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling networks, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police arrested four alleged members of an illegal arms and narcotics syndicate, recovering five sophisticated .30 bore pistols, 2.015 kg of heroin, and ₹5 lakh suspected to be drug proceeds.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the accused were allegedly involved in cross-border trafficking of illegal weapons and narcotics. He added that investigations are underway to trace the network’s backward and forward linkages and identify other operatives connected to the cartel.
The arrested accused have been identified as Bittu Kumar alias Bhaiya (20), Sahib Singh (21), Sanjeev Kumar alias Nannu (22), and Sandeep Singh alias Sunny (22), all residents of Amritsar or nearby Tarn Taran district.
According to Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, the operation was launched on specific intelligence inputs. Police first apprehended Bittu and Sahib Singh, recovering one pistol from their possession. Two additional pistols were later seized based on their disclosure.
During questioning, the duo allegedly revealed their involvement in cross-border drug smuggling, leading investigators to Sanjeev Kumar and Sandeep Singh. Police recovered 2.015 kg of heroin and ₹5 lakh in suspected drug money from the two accused. Two more pistols were subsequently recovered following Sandeep’s disclosure, taking the total seizure to five firearms.
Police said Bittu Kumar is also wanted in multiple cases related to the Arms Act and theft. Officials noted that all four arrested suspects are in their early twenties.
A case has been registered at Police Station Sadar Amritsar under relevant provisions of the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is in progress.
