New Delhi: The Delhi Government has finalised extensive preparations for the annual Kanwar Yatra, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directing all departments to ensure a smooth, safe and well-organised pilgrimage for lakhs of Kanwariyas expected to pass through the national capital during the holy month of Shravan.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, the Chief Minister described the Kanwar Yatra as a symbol of service, devotion, social harmony and cultural unity. She said the government is committed to ensuring that every devotee entering Delhi is welcomed with respect, provided adequate security and offered quality facilities throughout the journey.

To accord a grand reception to pilgrims carrying holy Ganga water from Haridwar and other sacred places, the government will install welcome gates at major entry points and arrange flower showers along key routes. Rekha Gupta also announced that she would personally visit different parts of the city to greet Kanwariyas.

The government has introduced a single-window system to streamline permissions and support for Kanwar committees, enabling them to access services without approaching multiple departments. Officials have been directed to maintain close coordination with committees and provide assistance based on their requirements.

Special emphasis has been placed on sanitation and public facilities. Round-the-clock cleanliness drives, deployment of sanitation workers and improved mobile toilet facilities will be ensured at Kanwar camps. Authorities have been instructed to maintain high standards of hygiene and carry out regular cleaning and maintenance.

Healthcare arrangements will include 24-hour medical services with doctors and healthcare personnel working in shifts. The government has also directed departments to ensure safe drinking water, uninterrupted electricity supply and preventive measures against waterlogging during the monsoon season.

Traffic and security management remain a key focus, with plans for barricading, route diversions, PCR deployment and accident-prevention measures being coordinated with Delhi Police and Traffic Police. The Chief Minister said the objective is to facilitate the smooth movement of Kanwariyas while minimising inconvenience to the general public.

The Delhi Government said the combined efforts of authorities and citizens aim to make this year’s Kanwar Yatra a memorable celebration of faith, devotion and public service.
