Pankaj Nath, Assam: The 33rd Assam State Aquatic Championship, organised by the Assam Swimming Association, concluded successfully today at the Dr. Zakir Hussain Aquatic Complex, Sarusajai, Guwahati, Assam after three days of exciting competition from July 17 to 19. The championship was inaugurated on July 17 by Assam Sports Minister Biswajit Daimary. Hundreds of athletes from districts across Assam participated in Swimming, Diving and Water Polo, displaying outstanding talent and sportsmanship.
In the overall team championship, Jorhat District emerged champions with 47 Gold, 36 Silver and 31 Bronze medals. Kamrup District finished runners-up with 27 Gold, 36 Silver and 33 Bronze medals, while Sivasagar District secured third place with 13 Gold, 14 Silver and 4 Bronze medals. In the Men’s Water Polo Final, Sivasagar defeated Jorhat 11–0 to win the title. In the Women’s Final, Sivasagar edged past Jorhat 3–2 to become champions. Prizes were presented by Bijoy Gupta, MLA, Lakhya Konwar, Secretary, Assam Olympic Association, Assam Swimming Association officials Pranab Borthakur, Pranjal Bhattacharya, Chandan Jyoti Phukan, Yadu Gogoi, Mukuteswar Goswami and Rajiv Sharma, and eminent social worker Dr. Partha Kumar Medhi, along with other distinguished sports administrators and former athletes. Bhaskar Ranjan Das, General Secretary of the Assam Swimming Association, congratulated all medal winners and participants for their performances and thanked the district associations, coaches, technical officials, volunteers and parents for their support. According to Mukuteswar Goswami, Publicity Secretary of the Assam Swimming Association, the championship once again proved to be an excellent platform for nurturing Assam’s emerging swimmers, divers and water polo players. The Assam Swimming Association expressed its sincere gratitude to all stakeholders, partner organisations, volunteers and well-wishers for their valuable support in making the championship a grand success.
