New Delhi: The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up the restoration of the historic Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur Sahib, Pakistan, describing it as one of Sikhism’s most revered religious sites.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, the DSGMC said the shrine, believed to have been established by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, holds immense spiritual significance for Sikhs worldwide. The committee claimed the gurdwara has suffered from neglect and urged the Government of India to engage with Pakistan to ensure its preservation and proper maintenance.
The DSGMC noted that the shrine is located in Narowal district of Pakistan’s Punjab province and highlighted its historical importance, saying Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent the final years of his life there before attaining Jyoti Jot in 1539.
The committee also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for facilitating the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, which has enabled thousands of Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit the shrine since its inauguration. It said restoring the historic gurdwara would further strengthen efforts to preserve Sikh heritage and protect an important place of worship for future generations.
