Chandigarh/Amritsar: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled a cross-border smuggling module, arresting two suspects—including a juvenile—and seizing 8.378 kg of heroin along with ₹2 lakh in alleged drug proceeds. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations indicate that the accused, including Lovepreet Singh alias Love of Khasa village, were acting on the instructions of a cross-border smuggler and were tasked with collecting and distributing heroin consignments across the state.
Police initially recovered 2 kg of heroin from the duo. Subsequent interrogations led to the seizure of an additional 3.01 kg of the contraband and the cash haul. Further intelligence uncovered a parallel smuggling network allegedly operated by the same handler, prompting a targeted operation that yielded another 3.368 kg of heroin. Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said two more suspects have since been identified and named in a separate case. Investigations are continuing to trace the network’s supply chain and establish its cross-border links.
