New Delhi: The Delhi government on Friday signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding with Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and Ehsaas NGO to install and restore modern rainwater harvesting systems in 75 CM Shri Schools under the Centre’s ‘Catch the Rain’ initiative. The year-long project, funded through IGL’s CSR programme, will include technical audits, refurbishment of existing facilities, installation of new rooftop harvesting units and water-conservation awareness programmes for students and teachers.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described water conservation as the cornerstone of a secure future and said the partnership between government, industry and civil society would advance sustainable water management in the capital. The project is expected to recharge nearly two lakh litres of groundwater annually at each participating school and is envisaged as a pilot for expansion to all Delhi government schools and, subsequently, institutions run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Education Minister Ashish Sood said the initiative complements the government’s broader agenda of creating environmentally responsible, technologically advanced schools aligned with national education and sustainability goals.
