New Delhi: The Delhi Government on Friday unveiled the seven-year ‘Clean Air, Healthy Delhi’ programme, an ambitious ₹8,300-crore initiative supported by the World Bank to strengthen air-quality management and curb emissions across the capital. Inaugurating an orientation workshop for the project, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the mission as “an investment in better health and a sustainable future” and stressed that tackling pollution demands coordinated action across departments and active public participation.

Scheduled to run from September 2026 to August 2033, the programme will receive 65 per cent of its funding through a World Bank loan, with the Delhi Government providing the remainder. Key measures include the creation of a dedicated project management unit, expansion of air-quality monitoring and data systems, deployment of an integrated command-and-control centre, promotion of electric mobility and public transport, retirement of highly polluting vehicles, tighter control of road and construction dust, and improvements in waste management. Officials said the initiative is designed to accelerate the goals of the National Clean Air Programme and could serve as a model for other Indian cities seeking sustainable solutions to urban air pollution.
